Everything you need to know about the Next-Generation Corvette

know about the Next-Generation Corvette – The all-new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is making buzz around the world and that too for all the exciting reasons. Much of the thanks are owed to the Corvette’s chief engineer, Tadge Juechter, who announced that the latest generation, the C8, will have a mid-engine configuration as opposed to the up-front placement that has been the norm since the launch of this iconic car. Luckily for Juechter, his work was cut out whilst convincing the president of GM, as the president himself understood the importance of a radical change for the C8.

What this necessarily means is that the engine is positioned in-between the driver and the rear axle which gives a better performance in terms of handling, acceleration, and braking. This engineering feat was till now was the exclusive purview of supercars that emancipated from the factories of Lamborghini, McLaren, and Ferrari. This is exciting because now the “American sub-six-figure sports car” (the price for the GM Chevy C8 starts at $60,000) will stand alongside some of the world’s best. If this deal does not make you go bonkers over the prospect of owning a C8, nothing ever will!

Some of the high-tech features in the new Corvette include:

• An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission gearbox, manufactured by Tremec, allowing the driver to choose between manual and automatic gear switching. Although Chevrolet has done away with its tradition of providing manual transmission for the first time in its history of Corvettes as initially, the C8 will be available with automatic transmission only. This is a lot of firsts for Chevrolet.

• A cutting-edge digital vehicle platform that acts as the core of GM’s future in electronic technologies, with reduced wiring, thus allowing for instantaneous signal transmission between the various vehicle systems.

• A redesigned GPS-operated suspension system which allows for custom adjustments to suit the different driving conditions with a storage capacity for up to 1,000 locations.

With all the above features, and then some more, Corvette has done justice to its 3 fundamentals – performance, functionality, and attainability. The legacy of each Corvette design being inspired by fighter jets has continued too. The rear intakes, visibly inspired from fighter jets, help to keep the engine cool and provide a substantially boosted aerodynamic performance. The rear hatch boasts of a lightweight glass panel which makes for a pretty cool display of the engine to all those gasping at this beauty of a motorized machine.

Some other cool features include you should know about the Next-Generation Corvette:

• Dual trunks, one under the rear hatch behind the engine to hold two sets of golf clubs. The other one in the front with the capacity to carry an airline-specification carry-on bag along with a laptop computer case.

• Ample insulation and heat shields to reduce engine noise, and provide a quieter driving experience on highways.

• A right-hand-drive version to cater to the international market.

Mark Reuss, the GM President, in a statement said that “Corvette has always represented the pinnacle of innovation and boundary-pushing at GM. The traditional front-engine vehicle reached its limits of performance, necessitating the new layout”. Juechter couldn’t have got luckier in his bid to usher the famed Corvette into a brave new era!
